Was für eine aufregende Reise nach England das doch war! Und um das Ganze etwas Abzukürzen: Ja! Ich habe ein Boot gefunden.
Aber es ist natürlich alles etwas komplizierter, wie immer. Ich sah insgesamt etwa 15 Boote in London und Plymouth. Sechs davon sind für mich interessant … und egal welches ich am Ende kaufe, sie alle sind der Anforderung einer Atlantiküberquerung gewachsen. Doch, und das ist natürlich klar, sie haben alle ihr Vorzüge und Nachteile. Auch die Preiseunterschiede sind recht beachtlich. Am Ende aber sind sie im Großen und Ganzen ihr Geld wert. Und es geht nun um die Frage: Bezahle ich weniger fürs Boot und investiere mehr Zeit in Reparaturen und Replacements – oder bezahle ich den höheren Preis und mache mir die Finger nicht schmutzig. Aber die Sache ist, ich bin gut vorbereitet, treffe frühzeitig die Entscheidung und habe somit eine ganze Menge Zeit um die Änderungen an den Booten in Eigenregie durchzuführen. Das spart nicht nur Geld, sondern führt auch dazu, dass ich am Ende allen Installationen vollends vertrauen kann und sie im Detail kenne.
Um ehrlich zu sein, im Moment denke ich wird es auf einen Kompromiss hinauslaufen. Ich kaufe relative neues Equipment, ein junges Boot – muss einiges ändern und tauschen, aber schaffe das locker über den Winter.
Ganz egal was jetzt passiert: Ich habe mein Boot in England gefunden! Eine sehr enge Auswahl wurde getroffen, jetzt geht um es all die Details. Ich werde keine weiteren Boote mehr besuchen und in Kürze die endgültige, wohl überlegte Wahl treffen.
Ja, ich habe einen Favorit. Aber jetzt geht es nicht mehr um Gefühle und Vorlieben, jetzt geht es um Preisverhandlungen, Kalkulationen, Verträge, Transport und soooo vieles mehr.
Die Reise war fernab des Bootkaufes natürlich auch ein Lehrreise. Ich bedanke mich bei allen, und wirklich bei ALLEN Personen, die ihr Wissen, ihre Erfahrung mit mir geteilt haben: Chris, James, Joe, Mike, Rachel, Simon, Tony .. und natürlich all ihre Familien und Freunden, die mich herzlich umsorgten.
Ich gestehe, es blieb zwischen all den Gesprächen, den Lehrstunden am Material, kaum Zeit die Gedanken zu sortieren, das werde ich jetzt nachholen.

What an exciting trip to England i had! And to make it short: Yes, i found a boat i will buy!
But, of course, like always, things are a little bit more complicated as expected. I’ve seen about 15 rowboats and 6 of them are considerable as as Solo Boat and were checked out in detail. All of them are considered a good choice for rowing the Atlantic. But all of them have their pro’s and con’s too … and the price is quite different. It depents on how much time i have and how much work i like to invest to replace the equipment or repair or chance some details. As more time i invest, as cheaper the boat can be i buy in the end. And i have the experience and time to do a lot of this work during the upcoming winter.
To be honest, i think it will be a compromise in the end. A young boot with good equipment and some work to do. But no matter which one i buy, i don’t need to see any more boats – i will buy one of the six i’ve seen recently.
Yes, i have a favorite. But it’s not about emotions and feelings now. I need to calculate, need to check contracts, transport and negotiate for a fair price. This will take some time and i will make the right decision after that. I am in a strong position to negotiate and am happy that i could compare all the boats so well.
Beyond that: I thank all the people who invested so much time in explaining me all the details, sharing the experiences and giving me some lessons with the equipment. Chris, James, Joe, Mike, Rachel, Simon, Tony … and of course, all of their wonderful friends and families who took care of me so well.
I have to admit: I did not have a lot of time in England to sort my thoughts. I will do this now and soon i will intruduce my nutshell to all of you!
