Schiff ahoi!

It’s a long time ago that i wrote about the boat, right? So here are the news: I have visited (and still will visit) five boats located in England, Ireland, Italy and USA. Because i decided not to buy a simple plywood boot with all of it’s disadvantages, i had to enter the much smaller (and more expensive) market for special fiber and GFK boates.
Something i had to weigh very carefully. I could buy plywood boats for less then 10.000 Euros, even less then 7.500 Euro. Sounds good first – but after close inspection, most of these boats turned out to be in a catastrophic condition. No wonder! In contrary: most of the fiber hulls are top of the notch. So deciding was (and is) all about equipment lists, the conditions of solar panels, watermaker and the length and weight of the boats. Especially the length and weight turned out to be one of my biggest concerns. The length varies between 6 and 7,5 meters and the weight between 200 kilogram and 750! kilogram. These are huge differences! A boat with 750 kg + trailer + equipment … well … quickly reaches the limits of my car towing it. It shouldn’t be the reason to decide in case that much weight would always mean much more safety, but this isn’t the case regarding to new construction materials. On the other side, a smaller boat lacks place for water, equipment and is just a smaller place to survive.

Well, to be honest, yes! i have a clear favorite now. It came to me like a lightning stroke. Now i will visit the last boats and negotiate all the little details, will arrange transport and all these stuff.

Besides that: I am still not happy with the distance to my storage facility for the boat. So looking for a nearer shelter close to Speyer or Heidelberg. Maybe someone can help?!
