Noch fünfzig Tage bis zum Start. Und erst gestern noch, so kommt es mir vor, waren es hundert. Aber dann wäre ja morgen … Ok, lassen wir das. Habe meine schnellsten Meilenstiefel angezogen und die Brille mit den Tunnelblick auf die Nase gesetzt. Erste gute Nachricht: Das Boot ist fertig! Einzig der Entsalzer bekommt einen finalen Service und Check bei Katadyn, aber ansonsten sind alle Schrauben festgezogen und mit Sicherungslack beträufelt. Zeit zum Packen also. Und das ist wirklich eine ganz andere Herausforderung. Mehr als 200 Kilogramm an Lebensmitteln, unzählige Medikamente, Tauwerk, Werkzeuge, Schrauben und sogar ganze vier Shirts und zwei paar Schuhe für bis zu 140 Tage. Fast schon dekadent! Es ist nicht wirklich einfach das angestrebte Endgewicht zu erreichen, und auch wo drei Shirts reichen, und das vierte nach einer Stunde im Wasser genauso verdreckt sein wird wie die anderen drei – es ist ein Kampf um jedes Gramm, und ab und verliere ich eben auch … und muss an anderer Stelle gewinnen.
Anderes:
- Das offizielle Flaggenzertifikat wurde erteilt. Bin wohl nun das einzige Ruderboot in Deutschland unter offizieller deutscher Flagge. Ganz lieben Dank an das unglaublich nette Team vom Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie [1] in Hamburg.
- Auch wenn das neue Iridium 9575 noch nicht lieferbar ist (Daumen drücken!), läuft die Kommunikation nun jedenfalls komplett über das spätere Backup-Telefon. Ich kann ohne Computer „Tweeten“ und „Facebooken“ – Blogeinträge schreibe ich auf dem Toughbook und schicke sie per Mail. Damit solltet Ihr also während der Überfahrt gut informiert werden. Ich gebe mir wirklich Mühe! Abonniert bitte Twitter (oder noch besser Facebook), da ich häufiger Statusupdates schreiben möchte, als ich Blogen kann. Ein einziger Twitter und Facebookeintrag kostet mich mindestens 1,35$ – also hoffe ich wirklich, dass Ihr mir auch alle treu bleibt 🙂
- Dank UUPlus habe ich jetzt auch kostenlosen Zugang zu einem Mail-Kompressionsserver über Satellit. Bei extremen Latenzproblemen über Iridium und bei der aberwitzigen Bandbreite von nur 2400 Byte pro Sekunde, ist UUPlus meine Rettung. Somit sollte es auch möglich sein mal kleine Bilder hier und da in den Blog zu stellen. Erwartet bitte keine Megapixel-Wunder – aber ich versuche alles.
Only fifty days left! Yesterday, as far i remember, i had one hundred. So tomorrow actually should be … well. I jumped in my fastest mile-boats, wear the glasses with the nice tunnel vision on my nose. The boat is ready – now i have to clean and disinfect the lockers and have to get all the stuff into. Only the watermaker is missing, has a final check at Katadyn. More then 200 Kilogram of food, hundreds of medicaments, ropes, tools and screws … and even 4 shirts and 2 pairs of shoes, for 140 days. Luxary! It’s hard to reach the intended starting weight, i loose my fights with he gear here and there. I know three shirts might be enough, and the fourth one will smell like the other ones just one hour after getting it out of the waterproof sea bags. I lost here, and have to win the other fights. Maybe less pictures and the smaller sleeping bag?!

- Got my official flag certificate. The first rowing boat under german flag? Seems so!
- Still wait for the new Iridium 9575 phone, which is not available yet. Fingers crossed please! But satellite communication is already running over my determinded backup phone. Be sure you follow me on Twitter and Facebook!
- Thanks to UUPlus i have access to an E-Mail compression service now. A huge benefit for sending emails and, surprise!, pictures! Do not expect high resolution content every day, but a small picture here and there seems possible.
